Is there any way to recover photos from a bad digital camera flash card?

There're shareware programs to do it on a home PC too, but in case you have reformatted the card, there's no hope, it's all lost forever.

If you haven't formatted ur memory card, try "Turbo file Uneraser" or "Zero Assumption Image Recovery".

Search on google - they are free versions and can be downloaded from several sites like downloads.com etc.

Yes there is a one way. first, break your flash card then pick a plastic material (Like Film RolL) from inside. go to Photo Lab and give them and ask for develop your pictures.
Reply:Take the card to a Walmart. They have a machine called an Aladin, that will read it, and they can either print it out, or put the pics on a disk.

Is there such a thing as a USB PORT to plug in to a tv to play films of the flash card.?

Or some sort of socket that can be added. And where can I get this from. Is there any webpages where I can get it.

Is there such a thing as a USB PORT to plug in to a tv to play films of the flash card.?
no computer to date as a usb port if this was possible it would be massively advertised and everybody would want one
Reply:You can't add a USB port directly to a television set.

The electronics and physical construction won't allow it. You'll have to get some sort of adaptor to convert USB into composite/rgb or hdmi signals which the tv can use.

A computer would be one type of adaptor to do the job.

Alternatively, you buy a television set with an SD card slot built in (e.g. most new Panasonics). These will record to and play from the card as if it were a built in VCR.
Reply:My TV has a socket for an SD card so I can look at photos on the TV. It also means I can record TV programs on the SD card and watch them on my phone. I haven't thought of any circumstances in which I'd actually want to do this, but it sure impresses the kids.

How many minutes does it take your computer to transfer your camera's flash memory card?

And what size and X-speed is it?

My 2GB 60X SD memory card took about 30 minutes to upload to my computer. It was fully loaded.

How does this compare to your transfer speeds?

Thanks!

How many minutes does it take your computer to transfer your camera's flash memory card?
That depends upon two things .. how large the card is and which USB connection you are using. Currently there are two versions 1.1 and 2.0. The 2.0 is faster than the first generation "firewire". Both your cameras and computers ports can slow down file transfers. Most pros use USB 2.0 card readers to enhance file transfers.

The x-speed only operates during the time the camera is writing to the card.

I can copy my files from a full 4GB card via a card reader in about 10 minutes or less..

What is the difference between a compact flash card type 1 and type 2? (will a 1 work in a 2 slot)?

There have been two different versions of Compact flash in the past.

Compact Flash 1 is slim....

Compact Flash 2 is a little bit wider ..... normally used with the IBM Microdrives (it's a mini hard drive) Used to offer better memory size but now the technology has kept up... Type 2's are pretty much redundant now.

But yes Compact Flash 1will work in a 2 slot....

But not the other way around as it's bigger......

I just got a 1 gb sd card with a flash drive/card reader. How do I use this flash drive with the card?

I have never had one. It has never been opened or in my computer. I know I sound stupid, but I do not know what to do first, or how to do it. Thanks for any help.

I just got a 1 gb sd card with a flash drive/card reader. How do I use this flash drive with the card?
The drive is used to take the pictures off of your card. Simply plug the reader into your USB port, then put the memory card into the reader when you want to download your pictures.

On your computer, you'll see the memory card come up looking just like any other folder on your computer, allowing you to just copy and paste your files from the card to your hard drive. Very handy little tools!

Are there any feature or function differences between a flash card and a flash drive?

This is for use with a PC, in case it matters.

My PC can accomodate both (I have both card slot and USB) - so my question is which one is better to use, and why?

(I did ask this once already but got just one answer, factual but not informative.)

Are there any feature or function differences between a flash card and a flash drive?
The flash drive is an all-in-one "stand alone" device, the flash card is not. Meaning, the flash drive can easily be used from one computer to another without a peripheral/external device.

The flash card can be used for more than platform storage %26amp; transfer. It can be used in digital cameras and tapeless digital camcorders, as well as with the new gaming systems.

How can I recover my image files from compact flash card which is currupted ?

Yes there are a couple of pieces of software that you can pick up fairly inexpensively. Alternatively, theres a service that can do a better job of recovering things, but its fairly pricey.

The service is at http://www.eprovided.com and you can do a Yahoo! or Google search to find the software -- like this:

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=na...

I used the service and they got about 300% more files back than the software did (that's 3 times the # of shots) and some of them are pretty nice -- they can be viewed at:

Is there a mp3 player out there that has really good sound and is flash based.....?

I just want a good, durable player that works on mac and pc. One that has a line in so I can recored my band and recoreds. A big plus would be if it used flash cards like sd/mmc compact etc.

It would not have photos, video, what not. I do not care about radio, just sound quaility and user friendly. Any help....Thanks

Is there a mp3 player out there that has really good sound and is flash based.....?
I purchased one not to long ago from Radioshack. Its a Phillips Go Gear. It's very easy to transfer music to, it records and it has good sound quality. The best part was the price...it was $80.00. I paid twice as much for one that i bought my son and im not nearly as satisfied. Hope i've been of some help.

How can I recover files from a corrupt or faulty compact flash card?

I have a Kingston Technology 2GB "Elite Pro" 50x speed CompactFlash card that died half-way through my vacation, I basically want to know if there is any way I can recover the photos (from my sister's wedding) that are on the card.

I have a Minolta Dynax/Maxxum 5D, and while using it in this camera it stopped working for no apparant reason - I took photos in the morning no problem, I turn the camera on an hour or so later to snap some more and it tells me that it can't read the card, and asks if I want to format it.

I've tried it in a Canon Digital Rebel XT - the camera won't turn on with this CF card inserted. I've tried it in a couple of other digital cameras that report read errors and so won't access the contents. I've tried a few card readers on my PC, but none of them will let Windows 'see' that a card has been inserted.

I've since filled a number of other CF cards without issue, and so the camera is not at fault.

CF cards are just one type flash memory card. Others include SD, xD and Memory Sticks.
Reply:Flash is the type of memory, it refers to many different types including USB memory sticks, MD, MMC, SD and xD cards.

Compact Flash is the type of socket, its larger than most forms being 43mm (1.7") x 36mm (1.4") x 3.3mm (0.13")

Can I retrieve photos from a flash-card which has been fully re-written at least once?

About 2 years ago my flashcard was formatted by mistake, and I wasn't aware of any file-retrieving software back then. I went on to use the camera occasionally. Now that I've come across some of these programs, and tried them, the best they offer is a retrieval of the last photos written to the physical drive (whether deleted or formatted), but not the ones before that. I'm sure that the "Quick and Easy!!" progs don't cut it. Is there something more "hardcore" out there for that? I know that law-enforcement agencies use that kind of technology. I was just wondering if I could get help or if something semi-professional was available out there.

Can I retrieve photos from a flash-card which has been fully re-written at least once?
If you have "fully re-written" (completely re-filled it with new pics), then you have changed every bit on the card and the originals are gone.

If you have not really completely re-written it, the space that is not re-written will still have some of the originals.

Will the battery on a Archos 605 4GB MP3 flash type player last longer then the hard drive versions?

I want to buy a Archos 605 4GB because I hear that the battery last longer, due to the fact that it dont have a hard drive like the Archos 30,80,160 GB. I like the fact that the 4GB Archos is smaller, I figure I will buy a extra flash memory card to go with it. I dont need alot of memory storage.

Will the battery on a Archos 605 4GB MP3 flash type player last longer then the hard drive versions?
its mostly a wash. designers opt for smaller batteries for flash players so you end up with about the same life as the hard drive versions.

What is wrong with the flash memory card?

i bought this flash memory card a couple of weeks back. i used it a couple of times it was fine but since yesterday, there's something wrong with it. i don't know what though.

when u put data on it, u unplug it, the next time u wanna use it, it just doesn't open. and it says memory card needs to be formatted everytime. and well, when u format it, u lose the data of course.

any ideas what it might be?

(it couldn't be any physical damage coz it's been all safe all this time. could it be a virus or sth?)

What is wrong with the flash memory card?
This is because your memory card may be affected with some virus (Unknown %26amp; unseen). It will be there in the main directories. Format and use some trustable antivirus software to clear the virus. or else... be very careful in using your mobile when connected with bluetoth and internet. do not accept any files from others so easily till you trust.
Reply:did you use "remove hardware safely" feature when you removed your flash memory? If not this could be one factor. A lot of these things crashes especially the cheap and unknown brands. Aside from physical damage you might have damage it electromagnetically (this happens when the flash card is exposed to EMDs - electromagnetic discharge or ESDs - Electrostatic discharges, which you get from magnets, carpets or by placing it near a high voltage appliances like your tv or monitor).

on the case of a virus you can easily remove it by formatting the flash memory, so i'm sure its not.

What is the difference between Compact Flash memory card and SD memory card? which is better?

im planning to buy a dslr. but my friend said that he rather choose the canon 400D because of the type of memory card it uses. why is that so?

What is the difference between Compact Flash memory card and SD memory card? which is better?
There's some key differences between the CompactFlash memory and Secure Digital (SD) memory cards.

CompactFlash (CF) cards are larger and their connections require the camera to have pins to make contact with the connectors on the CF card, which are internal. The drawback to this is that it's theoretically possible to bend the pins on a CF card. It's rare, but it does happen. The biggest advantages of CF cards: storage capacity and speed. You can buy CF cards with capacities that far exceed anything from SD cards and with speeds that are far faster than SD cards (although these speeds are more likely to be seen in a good card reader than most cameras).

Pros use cameras that take CF memory cards.

SD memory cards have their contacts on the outside, and the cards are physically smaller. This means that cameras can be made correspondingly smaller and lighter. SD memory is more widely used than CF card memory, because most point and shoot cameras use SD cards. SD memory cards are generally not as fast as CF cards, although some SD cards are fast indeed and will cost a little bit more. SD memory also comes in a variant known as SDHC or SD High Capacity, for sizes greater than 2 GB.

If you're buying a point and shoot, get SD memory cards.

If you're buying an entry-level SLR, SD and SDHC memory is usually the card type for the camera.

If you get a pro SLR or plan to eventually get a pro SLR and are starting out, get an SLR that uses CF memory. Frankly, memory is cheap enough these days that you could start off with an SD camera and just buy CF memory cards if you eventually upgrade.

Best cards: SanDisk Extreme III and Extreme IV cards. You'll find them in CF types (III and IV) and SD/SDHC types (Extreme III).
Reply:Compact Flash is an older design. It is larger and the design is subject to damage with insertion and removal from the camera. It is used in pro level cameras only because that is what has always been used in pro cameras ... the camera designers do not want to pi$$ off existing customers who have invested lots of money in CF cards. Eventually, one of the manufacturers will "blink" and start using a newer design, like SD. Some new cameras actually have slots for both types of card.

Don't base a decision on which type of memory card the camera uses. Decide based on how the size/weight/controls feel in your hands, whether is has the features (zoom/replaceable lenses/etc.) you want, and price.
Reply:Most dSLR cameras use CF memory cards...but, Canon's latest dSLR, the 450D, uses SD or SDHC memory cards.

As far as I know, there isn't much of a difference between these two types of cards, except when using the fastest CF cards available (e.g. Sandisk Extreme IV or Ducati edition). But, you don't really need the ultra fast cards if you're not a pro or aren't shooting continuous fast frames.

So, if you plan on buying the 450D, make sure you buy a high speed SD or SDHC card.

The link below gives you the fastest cards available (when tested in the 450D)...

The first 5 (in blue) were tested as the fastest. You can't go wrong with the Sandisk Extreme III, though.
Reply:SD card is the better option as its the most widely used card in the business and most electronic goods use that card from mobile to cameras. Regarding usage, it doesnt make much of a difference.

When a card is widely used chances are most card readers will provide accessibility .
Reply:Firstly, beside small and handy, the SD card are widely used mainly in the new dslr. But, don't choose a camera based on the memory card it uses.

Why can't my computer read my compact flash card yet my camera can?

i put it in the port on my computer and it cant read it anymore.

Why can't my computer read my compact flash card yet my camera can?
You might have to load software that comes with your camera.
Reply:Hmm. Does anything show up in your widows explorer window after the card is inserted? Try it in another computer, that will isolate that it's a 'puter problem. Brushing the contacts on the card with isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip might the 'puter find it.
Reply:maybe b'cos ur computer port has problem or ur memory card is password protected..remove the password and try again if it's password protected
Reply:This is my worry about digital as well. I once helped a friend out by putting her pictures on a disk from her memory card. I loaded the pictures onto my hard drive, then transferred them onto the disk. On my computer, the disk operated just fine. On her computer, the disk could not be read. She brought the disk back to me, and it opened fine. We both have the same operating system.

I've ran into this problem with another friend. This is what scares me with digital. incompatibility with others. Now suppose I buy another computer. Will my disks be able to open, or not? Digital is NOT the greatest thing to ever hit the planet. I don't have an answer for you, but just a heads up that you will encounter this problem from time to time.

I'll be watching this one in the hopes to learn something right along with you.

Cheers, any help appreciated :)

MY compact flash card keeps reading "inoperable" in my Nikon coolpix - is the camera faulty or just the card?
The only way to be certain is to try a new or different card. It could be that the card was not inserted correctly and that's the problem.

I have a Compact Flash card that has just reached image number 9999. Can I reformat it and use it again?

The card has reset itself to image 0000 (and corrupted, but that's another story and I've recovered the images thankfully). At the moment it is useless. Do I throw it away and buy another (I really don't want to as it's a 2GB card and was quite expensive), or is there a way to reformat it and use it again?

I have a Compact Flash card that has just reached image number 9999. Can I reformat it and use it again?
Of course. In fact it normal to reformat the card between use.

I normally reformat the card (compact flash) just before I shoot weddings. This way I am sure that the card is "fresh" and free from corruption.

Memory cards were designed for this kind of use. In fact the fact that you didn't format it till now is abnormal.

Next time, take your pictures and the download it burn it on to CD / DVD and then reformat it and then restart.

Good Luck

Most cameras imprint much more memory, I think this is the case because I still haven't filled up my 1st 2 gig and it is much less than 9999 photos, however I know what twice as many would be based on my previous 1 gigs. I could be wrong about the memory actually - you might have a better camera I don't know. I do know my camera is set on maximum pixelation, and this ends up eating memory.

How good is the Max Media Dock (Nintendo DS)? Also, how big is the Flash card you get with it?
Well i can give you the quick run down, as i own the MMD. I just got it three weeks ago for Christmas, (an attempt by my girlfriend to try and delve into my gaming habits) if you want to play back ups (ROMS), watch movies and listen to music, while playing Homebrew games or surfing the web, for cheap this is a good card.

Don't get me wrong, ITS huge, i mean it sticks out a lot compaired to other flash carts (the name used for things like the MMD that let you watch/play movies).

I have used it and its not bad.

My girlfriend got it for 50$ with no CF card, and got me two 1 gig cards for 20$ each from Staples, Best buy also has them on sale, as well as newegg.com

Moonshell is a shareware movie/mp3 player that you put on the flash cart then load your media files with the program. basically a windows media player for the Nintendo DS. You have to convert the movie files to .dpg before playing them, do a quick google search on that and you will have the answer in no time.

Its also awesome if you want to get the ds cartridge convertor where you can load your DS games on there, (legally) and not carry around the game cartirdges with a program called Maximum Overload (free + legal) you can also use it to download full versions of games that you don't own, which is illegal, i dont really know how to do that, (nor do i plan on it, since i support the game developers and the persons who make the games who dont get paid $100,000 + per year.)

It will also give you the chance to use free and legal programs that let you use your DS as an AIM chat client, and a Voice over IP like skype and also browse the internet, among 1000s of other things

I hope this helped.

P.S. its a dragg and dropp system, so no annoying drivers (thus Mac Compatible)

SD vs SDHC flash memory cards?

I'm confusedd. I thought SD cards coud only reach 2GB of capacity and only SDHC (also known as SD 2.0) could do more. But I find various SD cards of 4GB.

I also seem to notice that the fastest SDHC cards (class 6 = 6MB/s) are slower than the fastest SD cards (150x = 150x150kB/s = 22.5MB/s).

Why bother with SDHC then?

SD vs SDHC flash memory cards?
The 4 GB plain SD cards don't strictly conform to the specifications of the SD Association. There may be compatibility issues, although in practice these cards are known to work with many devices. For more information, see towards the end of page 3 in the report on SD cards at the web page mentioned under "Sources" in this answer. If you want to be sure to be safe, the SDHC cards are definitely compatible with 4 GB or more, as long as your device specifies that it supports the SDHC format. (Only the newest devices support SDHC, older ones will only accept plain SD cards.)
Reply:go with just plain SD cards then

Is there anyway to copy music from a compact flash card and burn it on a cd?

i have around 200 cds and on most of them i dont like more than 3 songs. if theres a better way to go about it i would appreciate the advice. i want to burn different artists on 1 cd.

Is there anyway to copy music from a compact flash card and burn it on a cd?
Use Nero to make the CDs. The format is the real issue. What format is your music in now MP3, WAV etc.,,, There are several ways to rip or convert from one format to the other. Depending on what burning software your using it may do it for you. The latest full version of Nero will.
Reply:Copy the files onto your pc and then burn them to a cd.
Reply:Yeah, there is. What file type do you have the music in? MP3, WAV?

Just grab a CD burning program like Nero or Sonic, and you're in business. If you don't want to mete out the cash for one of those, you can always try the free alternatives...

Reply:Windows media player will do that.
Reply:Just put the MP3's in some folder, then burn all those MP3's to a CD. It really isn't that hard.

What are flash cards?

I'm not sure why your question's in Special Education. Flash cards are cards on which something like a simple math problem is printed on one side. Music flash cards, for example, are used for sight reading. The person assuming the role of the quizzer holds up a flash card, and the quizzee says the answer as fast as they can. This can be used with more than one student at a time. On the reverse side of the card, the answer is printed.

Example: a teacher holds up a card with a note printed on a the second line up on a treble clef. "G!" shouts the student. They got it. They move on to the next card.

What are flash cards?
THEY ARE CARDS YOU HOLD UP AND LET KIDS LOOK AT AND SE IF THEY CAN IDENTIFY THE OBJECT OR YOU CAN GET MATH ONES OR THE ABC THEY ARE LOTS OF DIFFERENT KIND NOT TOO EXPENSIVE AND ARE VERY HELPFUL

What is a support system, flash cards,?
Life's story has been often told. Yet, in the drama, each must play apart, the character is left for each to choose. A villain if we will, or person of honor, holding high above all things, high as hopes great throbbing star above the darkness of the dead. Respect for virtue and love of family and home and friend.
Reply:a support system is something/someone that helps you to succeed...ex all students need a good support system @ home to do well at school...athletes who want to succeed at their sport need a support system of trainers and parents...

Do faster memory cards improve DSLR camera performance?

A salesman from Tristate Camera just sold me a 300x speed Compact Flash card. He stated that by going with a faster speed memory I could drop my shutter times and that it would shoot better in low light. I was in a hurry so I went with it as it was like $100 for a 8GB.....but now Im thinking he was just making that up....does anyone know if this faster card will improve my low light shooting?

Do faster memory cards improve DSLR camera performance?
The memory card has nothing to do with the camera's low light performance. Or with any aspect of image quality, for that matter. Complete BS.

The only reason you'd want a blazing fast memory card is if you do a lot of sports photography and take long bursts of pictures in continuous mode. A faster memory card will let you continue for more shots before the buffer fills up.

The camera keeps pictures in an internal memory buffer as you shoot them and writes the files to the memory card while you continue shooting. The faster the memory card, the faster a picture is moved out of the buffer - making room for the next shot.

The buffer itself can hold about 10 to 20 pictures on most dSLR cameras. So with a slow memory card, if you take pictures at 3 frames per second (or more, depending on your camera) the buffer will fill up after about 20 shots and the camera will slow down. With a fast memory card, you keep shooting at maximum speed until the memory card is full.

If you never take more than 10 pictures in a row, you can use any old memory card.
Reply:Your memory card has NO effect on how well the camera shoots in low light. The card is simply a recording device and doesn't care what its contents are.

The 300x card will however help you shoot more frames per second, it will clear the buffer of your camera nice and fast so that it will be ready for the next shot a lot quicker (you wont have to stand there waiting for the camera to finish recording before you can take the next frame)

300x cards are a good investment, but not for the reason the sales guy told you :) unless you need to shoot many frames VERY quickly you wont need that card, however $100 was a pretty good price and a fast card is always a good investment
Reply:Your first mistake was buying from a reseller without checking their ratings from earlier customers...always check the possible merchant at "www.resellerratings.com" before making any purchase! Tristate has a VERY LOW customer satisfaction number..as do many sellers on sites other than Amazon.com...Best to get all photo gear from reliable stores..B%26amp;H Photo is one of the best..Adorama Camera has been great for me..
Reply:Salesman lied...bad salesman.

When choosing a Xd flash memory for my camera, does the camera speed matter?

I'm going to buy a Xd-flash memory card in a few days, but as the world will have it, there are two types, M and H. Although I've found a bargain online for a type H memory card, I just need to know one thing: will it be a possibility that I buy a fastspeed H card, but my camera itself won't be able to keep up with the speed of the card? So basically, is it like one camera can use all cards, or is it that I must have a certain memory card for a certain camera speed?

When choosing a Xd flash memory for my camera, does the camera speed matter?
Actually, some Fuji %26amp; Olympus cameras can read only one format (there is a greater difference than simply read/write speed), regardless of actual speed capabilities. Check your user manual, and only use the version it lists, even if it's faster than you think you need. If you can use either, then get the fast-speed card. If you decide to upgrade your camera in the next few years, then it's more likely that the high speed (newer technology) card will be compatible with the newer camera. Also, if you are using a high-speed card reader to download your pictures to your computer, then the faster card will reduce your upload/download times, even if the camera's performance isn't affected by the higher speed card's abilities.

Remember, it's a one time cost, so a few extra dollars for extra options isn't a bad idea.
Reply:Be nice if we had the model. If its a camera that is under $400, no speed does not matter. Standard is fine since I do not think you will be doing sport countious shoot. I do not even think your camera can process pictures that fast in the first place. So spending extra on a card when your camera can even keep up with the card will be a waste of money. Why buy an engine that goes 200MPH when your car can only handle 100MPH?

What are flash cards?

if your on about flash cards for preschoolers ,

they are used to teach children letters, numbers, colors etc etc..

What are flash cards?
flash cards usually are for teaching sumone sumthing. like a preschooler is learning his/her colors then they have the color red on one side and the word "red" on the other side. or they can be number flash cards sum cards dont even have another side to it. just like study notes, vocab, spelling, etc.
Reply:They're usually big Cards That have pictures on one side and words on the other:

Example:

You have a card with the color red on it, on the back it has the word red!

You try and get them to say the word, and then you show them the other side, the color!
Reply:not all flash cards are for small children. They are also use as a study habit for vocabulary wards or just questions. They test a person on certain thing with the answer on the back.
Reply:Flash cards are also called flash disk or flash memory, a small device usually USB interface used for data storage.
Reply:Depends what type: Usually its either got something on one side like a word or picture and other side is blank...some have both sides used eg: word one side and picture the other...its a kind of prop for learning!
Reply:They're cards with questions on one side and the answer on the other.

Yes, you can use all brands of CF cards with it.

For inexpensive cards, keep an eye out for sales both in-store and online. Beware of ebay though, many of the cards sold on ebay are fakes.

How do i flash a graphics card ( nvidia 8800gt)?

Hello i have a nvidia 8800gt 512mb and i would like to flash the bios gfor the new version as it is getting quite hot, I have the bios fle but i was wondering how to flash it, the card is made by leadtek and leaktec has its own bios flashing tool but it will not read my cards bios, is there any other way i can do this, thanks /

How do i flash a graphics card ( nvidia 8800gt)?
I wouldn't flash the bios on a Ledtek card with anything other than a Ledtek bios or you may end up with a dead card. I suggest , if you haven't already, you try going to Nividia's website and get nTune and crank that card's fan up. They usually only run at about 55% by default.
Reply:uninstall the driver for it and try it again , then if it works go to the leaktek website and download the driver for your card and install it.

What are the differences between 1G and 512 MB memory cards?

They both are secure flash memory cards for digital camera. Which ones are better and why?

What are the differences between 1G and 512 MB memory cards?
I'd go for the one that has 1G,because it's gonna give you the chance to take more pics,i had to take the same decision like 8 months ago, because i needed a camera because my brother was getting married, and let me tell you i still regret the decision i should've bought one with 2G because i missed the chance to take a lot of really nice pics
Reply:Hi ShinningStar, the word of "1G" and "512MB " are the label of the size (the capacity of holding the amount of files or pictures). They are not the label of the type of memory.

Even if they are all secure flash memory, the speed to write and to read on the cards depends on the manufacture and the version of the cards. Some manufactures makes cards faster then the other manufactures, and generally the latest version of the cards are usually faster the the previous ones.
Reply:G = Giga = 1,000,000,000

M = Mega = 1,000,000

So a 1G memory card holds a little less than twice the amount a 512Mb card.
Reply:The one G holds more pics but is more expensive.
Reply:512MB, they drop the 24MB, when you have 1G, 24m won't matter.
Reply:One is exactly twice as large as the other.
Reply:Of cause is 1GB. Because you will run out of space if took more photos!
Reply:1GB holds twice as much as the 512MB. It comes down to how many pics you want to store and what you are prepared to pay. I would suggest the 1G if you take a lot of pics.
Reply:1 G (Gigabyte) is twice as much storage (1024 MB), but normally not twice the price. Usually it's a better buy.
Reply:512MB = mega bytes = 512 million bytes of memory.

1G = 1giga byte = 1 billion bytes of memory.

GB = billion byte

MB = million byte

KB = thousand byte
Reply:Its just more memory, 1G is 1000 MB.
Reply:Yeh - 512 MB compared to 1000MB. Go for the 1G :P
Reply:1000 MB equals to 1G! Does this make sense? It's like 100 CM = 1M
Reply:1G has twice the memory or capacity to hold information than the 512MB card.
Reply:1G has almost twice the memory.
Reply:A 1G. Card has twice the memory capacity of a 512MB Card.
Reply:Both 1 GB and 512 MB are different. The 1 GB has huge storage capacity, but it will be slower when accessing them from your digital camera. 512MB is faster than 1GB. You could buy 2 of 512MB, but you have to switch between them if you require. 1 GB will be suitable if you are taking lots of snaps.
Reply:The differences are the memory storage capacity and the price.
Reply:The one gig holds exactly twice as much. It is a better bargain to buy the one gig because they are usually cheaper in the long run. However, if you buy an off-brand memory card, it will take longer to save your pictures. Spend the money and get a well recognized 1 or 2 gig memory card. You'll thank yourself at some special event when everybody else runs out of picture memory!
Reply:512mb is half the storage space of 1 gb, thus you can fit doulbe the ammount of pictures on a 1 gb card.

What are flashcards?how to make flash cards?

Flashcards have a question on one side and the answer to that question on the other. You use them to quiz yourself about different things -- vocabulary, spelling, history, whatever.

You can easily make flash cards with a pen and a bunch of 3-by-5-inch index cards. On each card, write a question you need to study on one side, then the answer on the other.

They're handy. You can shove them in a pocket and study whenever you have free time. And when you've mastered all the questions, you can flip them over and quiz yourself on the answers.

Good luck studying.

they also do printable play money and many other kinds of printable resources for stage 1 and 2 (3-7s)
Reply:You can use index cards, and colorful ink markers to make them.
Reply:flash cards are usually 3 by 5 inches and you have the question on one side and the answer on the back
Reply:depends on what you need them for my son uses picture flashcard to help him learn what things are just like number or letter or u can also use them to help memorize certian things like what states was below the mason dixon line? get recipe cards and write what you want to learn on them
Reply:they help you learn stuff quickly.................for example you write math equations on notecards and then you show them to someone and you have them tell you the answer.........then you show them another one.............it helps you learn stuff quickly........you can also use it for spelling, or anything else you can come up with
Reply:Flashcards are pieces of paper or index cards (that are the same size) w/information on both sides. Most commonly, one side will ask a question and the other side will have an answer. It's easy to make them. Most convenient would be to buy some index cards found at most supply stores. Then just put the information you want on either side. These are a most helpful studying tool!
Reply:flashcards are just index cards with key words on it, like new vocabularry words. ONe side is the word and the other side is the definition.
Reply:Flash cards are pretty much index cards with a word on one side and a definition on the other side. they are used as a teaching aid. you can also have a math problem on one side and the answer on the other side.

you make them by putting a word on one side and the definition on the other, so you can study them

MP3 players: What is the difference between flash and card storage?

I was thinking of buying a cheap MP3 player so I could experiment with one and see if I like the whole concept before I spend heaps and get a super dooper one. However I have noticed that on the smaller size MP3's (1GB) there seems to be only "flash" memory.

Perhaps you can tell me what that means.

MP3 players: What is the difference between flash and card storage?
Well, a flash drive is one of those portable usb sticks, that acts like a portable drive. I have had mp3 players that are like that, you just open the drive, drop your music in. Flash drives are really easy to work with. I recently bought a sandisk sansa clip, for 45 dollars, and it has 1 GB, and a screen to sort by artist, song, or playlists, etc. and it is tiny, with a little clip to attach it wherever...I bought it on bestbuy.com. I here ZUNEs are pretty good MP3 players too though. Good luck.
Reply:Just wanted to let you know, the sansa clip is actually 2 GB, not 1.... Thanks! Report Abuse

Reply:I don't know about a lot of other kinds of MP3 players, but I have two iPods: a shuffle and an iPod classic. The shuffle has flash memory and the classic has a hard drive.

The hard drive has been around longer, has larger capacity, is bigger in physical size, is heavier, and is more prone to breakage.

The flash memory is the same technology as used in flash drives and camera cards -- newer technology with no moving parts. Small in size, light, very reliable. That technology's changing rapidly -- capacity growing and prices dropping every year.
Reply:Memory cards are flash memory. Unless you have some basic electronics classes you probably won't understand what flash memory is.

Flash memory is popular now because it is very cheap to make and it requires no moving parts. I have a great mp3 player that I still use to work out with (I don't want to go biking with my iPod). I never had any problems with it and it is very durable. And you can add additional flash memory to it.

Is it bad if you don't format a compact flash card before use?

i didn't realize you were supposed to format them. i just got a canon rebel xti and was so excited to use it that i just stuck the CF card in and went to town! will that hurt my card or camera, or should i back up the images that i have on the card so far and format it? i've only taken about 15 pics so far on it...thanks!

Is it bad if you don't format a compact flash card before use?
If it worked, it was already formatted.

However it is recommended you format it again *with the camera* (as opposed to on the computer), after you back-up your pics to your computer.

I'm trying to create flash cards by printing on 3" x 5" note cards?

My printer never fits the picture to the note card, it's driving me crazy. I've tried all settings that would seam obvious. advice? solutions?

I'm trying to create flash cards by printing on 3" x 5" note cards?
You don't say what kind of printer you have. I have an HP Deskjet920. I print on 3 x 5 index cards all the time. I found that I had to change the paper size to the 3 x 5 index card and reduce all the margins to .5 and change to landscape. You might be able to use smaller margins, depending on your printer. I feed the index cards one at a time through the envelop section.

Hope this helps.
Reply:is your printer a photo printer? Does it have a setting for 3x5" borderless photos? I guess it depends on your driver. I would cut card stock to size and run it like a photo.

PS3 Flash Card Reader - What's the purpose of it?
The Flash Card readers on the 60GB and 80GB PS3 are for transferring data from a device that uses a flash card (PSP, Digital Camera) to the PS3.

The Flash Card readers that the PS3 supports are: SD Memory Cards, Memory Stick Duo, and CF Flash.
Reply:Ok. You know how PS2 used memory sticks? Since the PS3 has an HDD, you can't take your game saves with you when you go to a friends house or something. This way, you can copy your save onto a flash drive, and use it that way. Also, you can transfer video, music, and photos through the memory cards.

Flash cards - time waster or grade saver?

does making flashcards for a big test really help you or just waste your time making them?

Flash cards - time waster or grade saver?
It's a really useful study method. You basically read everything twice, once when you read it before writing, then again when you are writing it down...plus any other time you use them. They can also be pulled out anywhere so even bus rides can be used for studying without pulling out huge folders!

I'd say colour code them by subject as it helps set things apart in your mind, and don't just use random facts, have an order or theme to them, that way if you remember one card you are likely to remember more in the test as you can relate that one to others.

Good luck with your exam!
Reply:They are a big help!! Not only do you get to write things down, but by writing them down, you kind of memorize them. And also they are easy to use. But just a heads up, make them like 2+days b4 a test/ quiz/ exam. And you should review them like everyday; but trust me, it will pay off
Reply:it really depends on the type of learner you are. i need to see something lots of times before i remember it, and writing things more than once helps me to remember it, so making and reviewing the flashcards helps me remember.
Reply:they help,

really good for quizzing yourself- I would make them if i were you.

i used them and got a 98% on the test :)

hope it helps!

Whats the difference between a Compact Flash Memory Card and a GB SD Memory Card?

I have a Canon A560 and I want to get a 2GB memory card. I don't know diddley about memory cards.

Whats the difference between a Compact Flash Memory Card and a GB SD Memory Card?
CF (Compact Flash) cards are larger than the SD cards. GB means Gigabyte as opposed to MB for megabyte. SD cards up to 2GB can be easily found and will hold hundreds of images. On your camera, that would allow for around 450 images on a 2GB SD card. Your camera does not accept the SDHC (SD High Capacity) cards, don't buy one it won't work. YOur camera can use the more common SD cards and the MMC cards. I would stick with the SD cards, they tend to be cheaper.
Reply:They are 2 kinds of memory cards, and different cameras use different types. Yours will probably want an SD card.
Reply:you'll need a SD card. you might want to get a SDHC card for best picture results.
Reply:Darth Matthew is correct. Your camera uses the SD/SDHC cards

Compact Flash Memory Cards are what the pro cameras use (and some entry level DSLR's)

A 4 GB card will work fine. That's a nice camera.

Get a high speed card, because on this camera, some applications will see the difference between high-speed and low-speed cards.
Reply:A 4GB CF card will work admirably. I use one in my Canon 400D camera.

Im trying to use my compact flash card with my Playstation 3. But how?

Thanks!

Im trying to use my compact flash card with my Playstation 3. But how?
For music you have to make a folder called MUSIC (CAPITALS NEEDED) for pictures you make a folder called PICTURE and for Videos yo do the same but the folder names have to be in a singular form.

How do I download pictures saved on my trans-flash card to my Motorola Razer V3m?

you go to your pictures menu hit the middle button to select menu and select Switch Storage Device. Select Trans card and go to the picture Hit menu again on the menu and go to move and move it to phone

Would R&S be more fun if instead of scrolling questions it was flash cards?

and whoever solved the problem first got to move on and answer the next question against the next R%26amp;S user?

Flash cards are wicked sweet.

What is the difference between different types of storage cards used in mobiles?

What is the difference between MMC,SD,T-flash ETc. card? And how mant types of cards(storage) are used in mobile

What is the difference between different types of storage cards used in mobiles?
it depends on Speed and Security. MMC is the simplest and i think the cheapest and reliable. SDC means secure digital card, that memory card has its own write lock on side of it (lick floppy disk), it is very reliable
Reply:mostly size and cost. availability of mmc is still limited.sd is most easily found and cost is very low 1 gb card average 50 dollars now. mmc usually come with a adaptor to make a pc think it is a sd so you can card reader it.
Reply:MMC is the way to extend memory without memory cards SD cards are mini cards inserted into the phone to increase memory you have memory cards starting from 64mb to 2gb now thats a lot of memory.

What is the root directory of a flash card?

alright im putting ringtones on my phone and i have to transfer my rintone to the mini sd card the card has these four folders on them (my_flix/ my_pix/my_sounds and my_music wat one is the root directory

What is the root directory of a flash card?
Ringtones would most likely go in the my_sounds directory, not in the root directory.

NY Bar Exam Flash Cards?

I am looking to buy flashcards that are on the state-specific subjects of the NY bar exam but cant seem to find any online... Does anyone know where I could get these?

NY Bar Exam Flash Cards?
I would try maybe looking at the NY STATE BAR website. They MIGHT have a store. Also, you could try looking around in the book stores of law schools (might have a better chance with the bigger ones like NYU and Columbia). If not try asking one of your law professors.
Reply:Are you in a bar prep course? They may have them for sale. The only flash cards I had were from PMBR, not state-specific.

Can you save on nintendo ds flash cards if so which one can you?

This takes me back to the days of cartridge composition. The typical DS card is composed of flash RAM for saving your game, and ROM to hold the game. However, some cards use ROM only, which do not have any saving capabilities.

The game that probably has the largest flash RAM is Nintendogs, because it needs to save sounds of your voice alongside the game data.

wtf? you can save games on them.. if that's what your question means..

There are no flash card readers in the 40gb ps3, what are they and what do they do? are they important?

i just want to know about these flash card readers and find out if they are important/vital to a ps3 , if not having any will i still be able to save my progress on my ps3 games?

There are no flash card readers in the 40gb ps3, what are they and what do they do? are they important?
I don't see the importance unless you already use flash cards. They are usually the memory cards found in camera's among other things. With 40GB to play around with I'm sure you'll be fine. If that's not enough, I understand that the PS3 is running on top of a Linux kernel and supports standard USB devices. So what you might miss in flash cards makes up for it in USB drives.

Can I save an internet game to a flash memory card?

my computer has only 1000 Mb worth of Ram (I know go ahead and laugh) but I want to download an internet game which takes 492Mb of Ram. Unfortunately if I download this game it'll take up too much memory causing my computer to run real slow I know it sux. So I was just wondering if I could possibly save the game to my flash memory card which holds 1GB worth of ram. If so can you please tell me how?

Can I save an internet game to a flash memory card?
Do you mean your computer has 1000Mb HDD?? How do you have anything on your system, that is only 1 Gig. I have never heard of that, honestly. Anyway, Ram is volatile memory. It only works when your computer is running, It will not save files.

You can save the file to your flash drive. You will just have to insert it when you want to play the game.

Have you consider buying an external HDD?? They are quite reasonably priced now.

peace,

mavin
Reply:ehh... you are confused.

RAM (random access memory) is a temporary and extremely fast memory used by your PC to load in the programs you want to run. The RAM is not used for storage. When you download something, you download it to your storage device, such as your hard disk. It has nothing to do woth your RAM. And a flash disk is not a RAM it's a storage device... like your hard disk.

What is the most reliable SD Flash Memory card I can buy for my digital camera?

I already have one SD card that has failed on me (yet never had this problem with CompactFlash cards). I am afraid I will loose my family photos on my upcoming vacations. With all the hype companies post for their own products, and all the problems I've read for various brands, it is hard to find what is the most reliable SD card out there.

What is the most reliable SD Flash Memory card I can buy for my digital camera?
Sandisk and Lexar are the best known memory cards for digital cameras. I am sure that the cards all pretty much perform the same, but these brands have a lifetime warranty for some of their products, so that makes me think they are built to higher standards. As far as day-to-day use, I have some generic and some of each brand I named and they all work. The contacts on the brand name cameras seem to have the equivalent of the "thunk" that you look for when you shut a car door to check it's quality, if you know what I mean. You don't wonder, "Is it in there right?" because it just feels right. I don't buy generics any more, though. I just end up getting them "with things" somehow.

Of course, you'll need a decent memory card and I recommend a genuine Sandisk Ultra II (60X) or Extreme III (133X) of at least 1GB. Lexar is another excellent card supplier and they have the "Professional" 133X as well as the Platinum 80X to choose from. Both Lexar and Sandisk come with image recovery software that you copy onto your computer before you format the card and both have limited lifetime warranties.
Reply:I have never had problems with Kodak memory cards. Very good quality
Reply:Dr. Sam has a good answer there. I would like to add that even reputable branded memory cards have failed on me. Although the card is now usable again, all the photos that used to be on my Sandisk 1 GB card suddenly disappeared overnight, literally. (I ended up using recovery software to recover the photos). I don't intend to imply that SD cards are very unreliable, but all electronics are prone to failure to some degree. It is just on occasion.
Reply:they are all reliable

the trick is to never use a card reader

that is what ruins them

Whats the difference between a flash drive and a sd card?

I want to buy something to store important info while I reboot my comuter. And I want to keep some file on a back up type of sd card or flash drive. I dont reall know the difference between them and I would like some info on that subject before I buy one. I want like 8 gb of storage space.

Whats the difference between a flash drive and a sd card?
They are the same kind of memory with a different interface. A flash drive is typically USB and will work on most computer. SD cards are usually used in digital cameras and PDA and require a card reader slot, which not all computers have. You want a flash drive (also called a thumb drive, keychain drive or USB drive). I've seen 8gb drives for %26lt; $30.
Reply:A flash drive connect directly to your USB port. An SD card has to be put into a reader then connected. If you do not have a reader then stay with the flash drive. For large storage space you may want to consider an external hard drive instead.
Reply:A flash drive plugs directly into the USB port, has the capability of holding much more than an SD card by means of "flash memory" and is larger in size and some could even be put on a key chain. An SD card is smaller in size. Think of it as a digital camera memory card. Those are SD cards. It is possible to use an SD card as a flash drive by means a card reader that plugs into the USB port.
Reply:Flash drives use flash memory. They larger than sd cards

Thats a flash drive.

Thats an sd card.

You might lose an sd card due to the small size so keep it in a safe place if you get one.

Also you can use your ipod as memory. Just enable it for disk use.

I'm still wondering if Professor Hawkings uses flash cards to say whatever he whats to say...?

He has a specially-equipped computer that he controls to communicate with. It produces audible speech using a computerized voice. Common phrases and individual words and letters for regular speech requirements can also be selected by him, but is a bit more tedious.

Is there a limit to the amount of pictures/files that can be copied to a compact flash card?

I have a 1 GB card and can only transfer 255 MB to it.

Is there a limit to the amount of pictures/files that can be copied to a compact flash card?
To format it put it in your digital camera and go to the options for it and you will find format normally under card settings that may help but if your card is 1GB you can fill it up with 1GB worth of stuff and if you can't something is wrong with your card if you haven't had it too long maybe try taking it back to the store you got it from and trading it or go to a camera shop and if they deal with digital cameras they probably could help you
Reply:Yes There is! Your compact Flash card is fomat in a way so that number will be very, very high. But the allocation table has a limit, everything does!
Reply:Of course, there's a limit for everything.
Reply:The memory card is probably formated so that you can have files on there but at the same time use the CF for pictures in your camera. Their really shouldnt be a limit on how many files you put onto your compact flash. Check your properties.
Reply:Are you transfering them through a camera? Many cameras have a limit to how much they can read. If you have an older camera it's possible the max read is 256. You camera would ignore the rest.

How can I find my Scan Disk Compact Flash Memory Card after I have inserted it into my computer?

I have an HP315 Photo Smart Digital Camera that stores the photos on a 64 MB Compact Flash memory Card.

I have an HP Pavilion A414X Computer with the Compact Flash slot.

Now my problem is, I put the memory card in to take some picture off of it onto my computer, then I clicked the program to "Safely Remove Hardware" and I removed it when it told me it was safe.

Then I took somemore pictures.

Now when I insert it into my computer, nothing.

I am not prompted to do anything, and the little blue light dosent come on.

Has anyone else had this problem? How can I find it on my computer, so I can remove the photos from it?

How can I find my Scan Disk Compact Flash Memory Card after I have inserted it into my computer?
yes but i have never actually ran into such a problem and my wife is a shutter bug and she hasnt ran into this problem. i recommend that you take it to a professional. i know for certain that you dont have to click on "safely remove hardware" to pull out your flash card because my wife doesnt have too. she probably just leaves it the heck alone when she something she don't know about.
