When choosing a larger Compact Flash card, does the card reader have to be the same brand as the memory card?

I have a Canon A95 with a Sandisk compact flash card and also a Sandisk card reader. I would like to get a larger memory card and am not sure if the card reader is exclusive to Sandisk memory cards.

When choosing a larger Compact Flash card, does the card reader have to be the same brand as the memory card?
It does not have to be the same brand name, but look at the card reader you have and jsut make sure that the card that you buy is the same size (Called a pin number). When you go to get a bigger memory card, bring your current card with you and jsut make sure that they are the physical same size... the sales rep will help! Good luck!
Reply:no. But if your still not sure ask someone in an electronics store
Reply:I would go with Memorex.
Reply:No it does not have to be the same brand, any memory card should work.
Reply:In short, no. The user manual of your Sandisk card reader (or search online) should indicate the maximum address (or size) it can address. The Compact Flash interface is an industry standard. Other brands of read/writers can access your current card and larger densities.
