How do compact flash cards work?

Flash memory is a form of non-volatile computer memory that can be electrically erased and reprogrammed. Unlike EEPROM, it is erased and programmed in blocks consisting of multiple locations (in early flash the entire chip had to be erased at once). Flash memory costs far less than EEPROM and therefore has become the dominant technology wherever a significant amount of non-volatile, solid-state storage is needed. Examples of applications include digital audio players, digital cameras and mobile phones. Flash memory is also used in USB flash drives (thumb drives), which are used for general storage and transfer of data between computers. It has also gained some popularity in the gaming market, where it is often used instead of EEPROMs for game save data.

Flash memory is non-volatile, which means that it does not need power to maintain the information stored in the chip. In addition, flash memory offers fast read access times (though not as fast as volatile DRAM memory used for main memory in PCs) and better shock resistance than hard disks. These characteristics explain the popularity of flash memory for applications such as storage on battery-powered devices. Another allure of flash memory is that it is nearly indestructible by physical means, able to withstand intense pressure and boiling water1.

Flash memory stores information in an array of floating gate transistors, called "cells", each of which traditionally stores one bit of information. Newer flash memory devices, sometimes referred to as multi-level cell devices, can store more than 1 bit per cell, by varying the number of electrons placed on the floating gate of a cell.

In NOR flash, each cell looks similar to a standard MOSFET, except that it has two gates instead of just one. One gate is the control gate (CG) like in other MOS transistors, but the second is a floating gate (FG) that is insulated all around by an oxide layer. The FG is between the CG and the substrate. Because the FG is isolated by its insulating oxide layer, any electrons placed on it get trapped there and thus store the information. When electrons are on the FG, they modify (partially cancel out) the electric field coming from the CG, which modifies the threshold voltage (Vt) of the cell. Thus, when the cell is "read" by placing a specific voltage on the CG, electrical current will either flow or not flow, depending on the Vt of the cell, which is controlled by the number of electrons on the FG. This presence or absence of current is sensed and translated into 1's and 0's, reproducing the stored data. In a multi-level cell device, which stores more than 1 bit of information per cell, the amount of current flow will be sensed, rather than simply detecting presence or absence of current, in order to determine the number of electrons stored on the FG.

A NOR flash cell is programmed (set to a specified data value) by starting up electrons flowing from the source to the drain, then a large voltage placed on the CG provides a strong enough electric field to suck them up onto the FG, a process called hot-electron injection. To erase (reset to all 1's, in preparation for reprogramming) a NOR flash cell, a large voltage differential is placed between the CG and source, which pulls the electrons off through quantum tunneling. In single-voltage devices (virtually all chips available today), this high voltage is generated by an on-chip charge pump. Most modern NOR flash memory components are divided into erase segments, usually called either blocks or sectors. All of the memory cells in a block must be erased at the same time. NOR programming, however, can generally be performed one byte or word at a time.

NAND Flash uses tunnel injection for writing and tunnel release for erasing. NAND flash memory forms the core of the removable USB interface storage devices known as USB flash drives.

Where can I get {toys} flash cards for perschool?

Walmart and Kmart both have flashcards back by the childrens books, I bought some for my four year old. Also if your child likes to be on the computer the web site Starfall is really good, it teaches preschool to firstgrade basics.

Reply:Dollar stores like 99 Cents Only sometimes have the flash cards. They generally have colors, numbers, shapes, alphabet, opposites, and similar ones for preschoolers. You can also buy them really inexpensively at Wal Mart. Look near the children's books and coloring books. They have preschool workbooks as well. Toys R Us, Target, and similar stores also sell them. You can also find them on E-bay inexpensively.

What memory cards work for Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP Digital Camera? are Compact flash?

i am looking for a 4GB card, and wanted to know if compactflash cards work for it. i know for sure that SD, SDHC, and MMC cards do work.

What memory cards work for Canon PowerShot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP Digital Camera? are Compact flash?
No, you can not use a Compact Flash card in your camera the Compact Flash card is a lot larger form factor than the SD memory card. You can get a SD memory card up to 16GB and at some good prices.

check them out at this link.

Reply:Canon DLSRs use CF.

However, there are various configuration like higher capacity 2- 4 - 6 - 8 gb, low/high speed. Price of flash media is going down fast nowadays that its very tempting to go for the highest capacity and speed.

You will have check the manual or Canon website on the flash media limitation of your camera model. If not supported, it may not function properly, so wasted investment and emotion.
Reply:I looks like the last time Canon made compact digital cameras that used CF cards was in A95 in Aug 2004

Here is a link to some of those cameras.

In an attempt to make compact digital smaller and smaller, the memory cards eventually got smaller too.

Some makers of entry level DSLR's use SD and SDHC cards to make the transition from compact digitals to DSLR less costly ...

Eventually there will be converters available so the consumer can use their old SD's in DSLR's which use CF cards .. there is one made now, but it is quite expensive. It is cheaper just to buy a 4GB CF card for under $40 or a 2-pack of 2GB cards for $28.

Flash cards like R4.?

I want to buy R4 for my son, but I just thought about something.

Is there any other flash card that is like the R4.

Not exactly the same but close enough,

and that also emulate Ds Roms.

Thats why he mostly wants it.

HE carries to much games.

Flash cards like R4.?
There are multitudes of slot 1 solutions like the R4ds.. you can look up M3 Simply or SuperCard. But basically they are all the same thing with 3 different names. The R4 and the M3 Simply only differ in color and the name sticker, inside they are EXACTLY the same thing.

For some reason, the R4 is cheaper by a few bucks (I have no idea why).

Just go with the R4 unless you can find an M3 that is cheaper. They both are compatible with tons of games and wifi features.

Can the motorola slvr l7 accept and function with a 1 gig trans flash memory card?

I want to buy the slvr l7 with itunes. All the specs on different web pages show that the l7 can use 512 megabyte trans flash card. Is that the highest that the phone can go or was that the highest memory cards that where available at that time? Ebay has some l7 phones with 1 gig card.

Can the motorola slvr l7 accept and function with a 1 gig trans flash memory card?
According to the Motorola website, the SLVR L7 has built in 5MB of memory plus up to 512MB of memory on the removable memory card. Will it hold a bigger memory card? I would call Motorola and ask them, because personally, I would not shove a bigger card in there until I knew for sure it wouldn't overtax the system. You can reach them toll free at 1-866-289-6686 Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (CST).

What r flash cards?

in 1 of my ans. i read that the best way to study is FLASH CARD .whats it?

Reply:A double sided card; one side with the question, the other with the answer.
Reply:Question is on side of the card and the answer is usually on the other side of the card.
Reply:usually index cards with a word or question that needs to be studied on one side and the answer on the other. it help memorize things
Reply:Think of them as your little helpers. They guide you through life and give you very good opertunities. (It builds character)
Reply:You get a package on 3 x 5 index cards. On one side of the card you write the question, on the other side, the answer. You keep going through the cards, and the ones you find you can answer easily, you remove from the stack, spending more and more time on the questions you are having trouble with. You can use them for other things beside Q and A. I used them in Biology for identifying animal genus and species. The point is that you can reinforce your learning by studying both sides of the cards. For example, if you go through and know all answers, try reading the answers and see if you know the questions. It's the best way to learn things that require rote memorization.

How can I modivate my 19month old daughter to talk? I've tried flash cards and dvds but she rufuses to talk.

I feel like I have tried everything. Flash cards, dvds of her favorite characters, songs..etc. I even had her hearing checked to make sure she hears me. And she passed. But she just wants nothing to do with talking. All she says is "No" and "Why?"

How can I modivate my 19month old daughter to talk? I've tried flash cards and dvds but she rufuses to talk.
Many 19 month olds only have a 6-10 word vocabulary, but language skills do tend to explode around 24-30 months. In the meantime, be sure to read to her every day. Ask simple questions throughout the story to encourage her to respond :)
Reply:Dont stress i am a child care worker and have been for the last 20 yrs just talk to her as your doing things everyday things just talk through what you are doing it and how.My son is 3.5 and he talks the ears off any one and this is b/c i just used to talk to him about anything and everything to him like what i did at work and then i would ask him and we would get into a conversation that went for half an hr he did speak at 8 months old just through me constantly talking to him and read lots this also helps.
Reply:just talk to her and get that tv OFF
Reply:I don't think you should start worrying about it yet. When did you start to talk? And her father? If either of you were late talkers, chances are she will be too. It is not a sign of intelligence. If she is otherwise developing regularly, the fact that she isn't talking at 19 months means little. Who knows how she understands the world.

My youngest sister, (7th of 8 children) did not speak until she was about 24 months. She was valedictorian of her class and made the Law Review at law school. Her daughter is 5 months older than my daughter, and she only started understanding language at about 18 months. My daughter, on the other hand, started speaking at 1 year. You watch. My niece will be much more academic than my daughter.

As for my daughter speaking, I use signs with her, and the only words she can say are things she can point to or things she can sign. I use the signs because she is exposed to three languages and I was sure she would be langauge delayed and I wanted her to have a way to communicate when she was developmentally able to but didn't have the language. I think signing is why she speaks early. She is smart, but I don't think she is smarter than most kids.
Reply:take her to a speach therapist
Reply:She doesn't need to be talking, and there's really nothing you can do to get it to do it sooner. She's probably not physically ready. Babies talk at their own pace. Einstein didn't talk until he was three. What's important is knowing that she understands you. If she follows two part commands like "Pick up that ball and bring it to me" she's fine.

If you would like to communicate with her more, try baby signs. She can tell you what she needs before she is physically able to talk. Check out www.babysigns.com
Reply:Just keep talking to her - watch what catches her interest and talk to her about it. Narrate your actions, speak her part of the conversations you are (sort of) having with her. She is most likely to pick up words of things and actions that are of HER choosing (if she likes kittens, find the kitten cards in the stack). Just keep chatting and give lots of love and positive words.

My kid didn't say a word until 20 months. At 26 months he talks all day and talks in his sleep. We were worried, but just kept talking, reading and singing. We did some sign language before that, and he used the signs for what interested him (MORE and MOM mostly).

Have fun!
Reply:Babys often develop differantly. My first child was speaking in complete sentences at 2 and knew her abc's. My 2nd did not start talking until he was almost 3. I try to get my child to repeat words bach to me and show then what they mean. Dont stress out your child will learn it when she is ready. And in my experience 24mths is usually when the talking really starts to peak. I am a mother of four. My kids all started talking at diff ages. Shell get it. i would enjoy the silence for now lol! Good luck!
Reply:It is not abnormal for a child of 19 months not to have a large vocabulary. Most physican's worry if the child has no speech after the age of 2. Since your daughter says a few words, I would not be overly concerned. Some children have a "word explosion" at a certain age. One day they only have a small number of words they say, and overnight they are speaking sentences. These type of children tend to watch and learn until they are comfortable speaking themselves. My daughter is 20 months, and she has a large vocabulary. However, my son did not have good speech until around 2 and a half. I even got him evaluated because I was concerned, and I was told he was normal. Now he is 7 and never shuts up! However, if you feel there is an underlying problem there is no harm in getting her evaluated by a speech pathologist. Therapy will not hurt her by any means. Here is a link that gives you tips on how to enhance your child's speech at this age. http://www.asha.org/public/speech/develo...
Reply:First of all, it doesn't look like you need to worry yet. She's saying a couple words, and some children are just late talkers. Does she understand you when you talk? Will she point at a picture if you ask her to, for example, "point to the car"? Receptive language (understanding) comes before expressive language (talking).

To increase her language, keep talking to her. Talk all the time, describe what she's doing, what you're doing (when you're playing, changing her diaper, sweeping, everything!), read books to her, tell her stories, sing songs.

I know this one is a hard one, but I would strongly recommend turning off the TV. There has been some good research recently that has linked baby's television watching and TV shows directed at babies to slow language development and decrease vocabulary. Even an hour a day has shown a big decrease in children's vocabulary. This applies to Baby Einstein, Sesame Street, Blue's Clues, etc. Even if it's designed for babies, that doesn't mean it's good for them, and in fact it harms them.

Sign language or baby signs are a good thing to try. One of the great things about that is you can help her say things by "hand over hand". When feeding her and you know she wants more, you can sign "more", then put your hands over hers to help her sign "more" before you give her more. That way she can associate the sign with the reinforcement.

Another good thing to do is to reinforce her attempts at talking. Even when she "accidentally" says something that sounds like it might be a word, you can reinforce it. If she says "babababa", you can say, "you said bottle! Here's your bottle" and give her her bottle.

In short, just keep talking to her and she'll eventually talk back. Good luck, and don't beat yourself up too much with worry :-)
Reply:Toddlers ability to understand language is much more developed than their ability to produce (expressive) language. Between 8 months and 1 1/2 years, babies use expressive jargon, a flow of gibberish with language-like intonation. At the same time, babies begin to use single words (holophrases) that are understandable to others.

This time line of infant/toddler language development is only a guide.

What you can do:

Get her to hand over an object correctly and teach her the names of objects in appropriate situations. Language learning becomes more effective when associated with actual objects. Language should be taught in a pleasant manner and integrated with routine activities.

You can get her to name persons and things. Show her photographs of the family and identify the persons in the family. Also you can show her colourful books and magazines and ask her questions. These activities will familiarise her with members of the family and give her an opportunity to recognise, identify and associate real life scenes with the pictures.
Reply:She may be lagging behind, but that doesn't mean she will forever. Does she understand you when you speak to her or does she get confused?

It may be hard, but you may have to refuse to do things for her until she speaks. I mean little things of course---like put her favorite toy high up on a shelf so she has to get you to get it for her. Tell her that she has to say "toy" or "please" or something else that makes sense.

I would take her to a speech therapist also just in case.
Reply:Some children are like that. My daughter right now doesnt say much either she is 18 months. But my little sister when she was that age she was the same way then at 2 1/2 years old my mom and dad put her in to day care and as soon as she spent her day around other children she started talking and we couldnt get her to stop lol. My sister is now 13. When the time comes your little one will talk. So her doctor said my daughter is fine and normal , because all she says is three main words, but she knows what many things are and she is understanding what is being said to her.
Reply:My daughter was a VERY LATE talker....and EVERYONE around me constantly suggested that she was autistic because of this delay in speech...i can't even tell you how many of my so called friends almost got punched everytime they mentioned that my quiet child is probably ill in some way simply because she wasn't interested in talking to their ill-mannered children - ok, sorry, off on a tangent. People suggested that I take her to a speech therapist too but Im so glad that I didn't listen. Today she is almost 3 and a half and granted, her speech isn't at the same level as her peers but she talks a LOT....turns out, she just didn't want to say the wrong thing....when she wants to say something, she takes the time to figure out what she wants to say and she enunciates her words in such a way that I know that her delay was just her own way of getting it "right". It's frustrating, trust me....but if she's healthy then there's no reason that she won't come around in her own time. If she's not more talkative by age 2, maybe you could have her evaluated by someone but I wouldn't worry about it just yet - 19 months is 19 months, after all - and especially if she doesn't have siblings, she's just a baby trying to find her way in the world!
Reply:I remember my youngest daughter at that age. All she would say was 'bobum' and point to what she wanted. Talk to your baby a lot, she'll start talking soon and then you'll just want her to stop and give it a rest! Kids all learn at different speeds, but she sounds okay.
Reply:I don't know what you want us to say? You are doing everything to encourage her and she isn't talking.

Do you want us to tell you that you should take a pressure washer to her until she talks?

Or some magic book/drug/activity that we all know and are holding out on you?

You read to her, talk to her, sing to her.

Her hearing has been assessed.

She makes a "n" sound which involves a complicated tongue move and other sounds, so she is clearly capable of speech.

So all that leaves is waiting for her to decide she wants to speak.
Reply:Quit pushing her. You can't make a 19 month old do much of anything. It will come. Instead focus on teaching her things and be okay with her pointing them out to you when you say it.

If you're really concerned you could always have her evaluated (for free) by your local early childhood program and they will either help her or set your mind at ease.

Keep in mind that her actual speech has nothing to do with her intelligence.

**

No need to get the undies in a knot. I believe my point here is that you are making yourself nuts over something you have no control over. When a child speaks has zero to do with how good or bad a parent is. All I'm saying is take it easy, continue to speak to her about every single thing you see an do. At 19 months of age that is the very best thing you can do. And how do I know that you ask? See below, my son has a significant speech delay and I'm still in your shoes. My only other suggestion would be to also start signing with her so that she does have a way to communicate her needs and feelings. The older they get without talking the worse it gets. This I know.
Reply:say this

Hunny If you dont talk to me I will fell sad because my own daughter doesnt want talk to me...dont you feel sad for me
Reply:my son was almost 3 before he would say more than a word or two. 2 years later, i wish it was a bit quieter....
Reply:I have no advice, but i'd love to keep an eye on the answers you get because my 16 month old son doesn't say a word and its starting to worry me!.. He can hear very well too. He just babbles everything.."mamamammamamama" and "babababababba" he understands everything too, just doesn't talk.

hopefully we get some answers.
Reply:just let her get on wiv it every child takes their own time to do things she'll talk wen she's ready. and wen she does start she'll come on in leaps and bounds and really surprise every1

Digital Camera Photos %26amp; Flash Cards?
At 2048 x 1500 pixels, you can fit 2400 photos on the flash card, or 178 photos a day.

At 1024 x 768 pixels, you can fit 4800 photos on the flash card or 342 photos a day.

Now if you can just figure out how to increase the vacation days.☺

Which compact flash card do you use for your SLR camera?

Which compact flash card do you use for your SLR camera?
Any name brand will work just fine and Lexar cards can be read by any reader. Almost any of the new cards on the market today can transfer images from camera to card faster than the camera is capable of. I've used SanDisk, Lexar and lately, Kingston and they all work just fine. I have had problems with the storebrand Promaster.
Reply:Sandisk 2Gig Extreme III CF got it for $39 before! ;)
Reply:I use Sandisk as well. Lexar Carts seem to need their own card reader. Mine are 1, 2 and 4 gig. The size depends on what you shoot and if you can download the card where you shoot. I would prefer 2 carts to one in case one fails and yes they do fail.
Reply:I use Sandisk as well. A bit of a warning though. Buy them only from trusted retailers. There are a lot of scams out there (ebay) where they are selling poor quality look-a-like cards.

How do you make flash cards on Microsoft word?
i easiest thing you can do is create a table, it will allow you to make the rows and colums as big as you want. the easiest thing i can think of would be for you to create a table with 2 columns. put the question in column 1 and the answer in column 2. hit enter a bunch of times to make the cube bigger. once you're done entering everything, print it out and fold the paper down the middle lengthwise. then your questions will be on one side and the answers on the other.

Does a Garmin GPS for a car need a data card/flash memory? What is the purpopse of these data cards?
Depends on the device...some use cards some do not. All have some level of built in memory...the cards provide additional memory room for better/broader maps. Report Abuse

Reply:With mine it came with "base maps" loaded, for details such as street address and POE I had to load with a supplyed card that i could down load any imfo on any state

Where can I go to laminate flash cards? (something like teaching store)?

Hi,

I'm looking for a place where I can go to laminate some flash cards that I've made. There used to be a teaching store on Prospect near Lawrence (near AMC Saratoga) that had a large machine you could run them through, but I think that is now closed. Does anyone know where I can get this done? I've made a lot of these (at least 50), so I'd like to do it rather cheaply. I'd prefer not to have to purchase one of those laminating machines (like are found in office supply stores) because the flash cards are 4" x 5".

Thanks!

Where can I go to laminate flash cards? (something like teaching store)?
For something like what you have, I think you can do this yourself easily, without a machine. Office supply stores sell packs of self-laminating plastic made by 3M. It only costs a few bucks a pack and it will save you a lot of money if you have 50 of these cards.

For example, Staples sells this one in 4" x 6" size (you could trim it with a scissors if you don't want a clear plastic edge):

http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores...

I'm sure that the other big office supply stores have the same product.

If you want someone else to do the work and you don't mind paying the money, any Kinko's copy store can do the laminating for you. But I am sure it would be a lot more expensive that way.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!

Where can I buy vocabulary flash/study cards to learn a new language?

Ok, Im going nuts here. If it was a language like German, French, Italian or Spanish, I could find what I was looking for at the drop of a hat, but I'm looking for GREEK. I am looking for English to Greek vocabulary flash cards. And not beginner either, I've been living in Greece for 4 years and I know the basics and then some but I really would like to build my vocabulary further so not only my conversation won't be as limited but I can stop asking my husband all the time 'whats the word for this' etc etc. lol

I had a Langenscheidt German to English box of vocabulary cards in Uni. It was amazing! it had like 2000 cards. So simple and effective.

Anything like that would be great!

If you know of one, I need a title, or a company, a store a website (preferrably), ANYTHING.

Thanks so much.

Is there any famous whole seller or distributors in India?

Where to buy flash cards like Sd card for cell phone?
I was just at walmart.com today and they are selling 1 GB mini SD memory cards pretty cheap -- like 40 bucks. They had smaller ones there, too, and they were cheaper. That'd be a good place to look.
Reply:you can check EBay. I bought a 4GB card for my Treo 650 for 115 bucks american. Buying on Ebay is much cheaper than a store.

I am in college studying to be a sterile tech. Do they sell flash cards for the instruments or posters?

Wouldnt it be easier just to make flash cards of your own on 3x5 cards? I doubt they make flash cards for your sort of study.

We used to make our own flash cards in high school out of 3x5 cards to help us memorize things on a test.

Are flash cards helpful for studying?

Do they help you to remember important imformation for a test. I'm using flash cards to help me study. Can anyone tell me how can you remember better b/c it feel like i'm not learning a thing. Thank you

Studying: Flash cards?

I have never been a good studier: always waited until the last minute, reading and cramming just minutes before the test (of course, a week later a forget it all). We just started a new unit in science and I am not doing that great so far (good mark, but I want honors and science is holding me back) So, since 3rd term is 40% of the year mark, I want to get better study habits. I was thinking of flash cards. I have absolutely no idea what I should do. I am going to buy index cards: are those good? Would I write the answer on the front, or upside down or something. I am very busy and this would help me study while I'm out doing whatever, like on the road for sports and stuff. Thanks a bunch!!!

Alicia

Studying: Flash cards?
Make a timetable and stick to it! I find it hard to study to I get good marks but I have to say I am pretty lazy. Flash cards are good for a while but then you just start to remember then and realize without them you have no idea what the answers is. For Latin flash cards are great but for most subjects they are a bore!
Reply:There is an amazing book called "Mind Mapping". I used it in high school and could learn a whole binder full of notes in just a day. It teaches you how to map out pages and pages of information you need to learn onto a single page. Then, you only have to study that page for 10 minutes a day. This book is so helpful I don't know why every single student hasn't had a lesson in mindmapping.
Reply:Flashcards are a great study aid. And index cards make good flashcards. I would write the question on the front and put the answer(very small)upside down at the bottom That way you could use the back of the cards for the next science unit. Good luck.
Reply:Put the question on one side and the answer on the other. I force my freshmen to do this with their weekly vocabulary. I am a fond believer that it is great for studying, because it really helped me in college.
Reply:I only use flash cards when I try to study vocabulary and definitions. Write the word/term on the front of the index card. Write the definition on the back. Make sure your definition isn't too long. If so, try to summerize it in no more than a short sentence.(six words)
Reply:Flash cards are wonderful!

Buy index cards.

Write the question on one side, and the answer on the other.

Just keep going through them, over and over, if possible, get a friend to help you out!

Good luck!
Reply:you put the question on one side, and put the answer on the back.. answer the question,, then check it... you should also make a big study sheet of everything you learned,, and in your free time just look at it.. but i usually just study the day of the test in the morning :P

I've been living here for 4 years and even though I'm well beyond being a beginner, I would still love to improve and expand my Greek vocabulary so my conversation will be more interesting for people. Japanese Language Flash Cards?

I'm trying to get my hands on some pre-printed flash cards (or little electronic gadgets), particularly for Hiragana, but Katakana and Kanji too.

Ideally they would be playing card size and thickness and come in little packs.

I'd like the picture, the stroke order, the pronounciation etc. on the card too.

Anyone know where I could get such a thing?

I don't want answers about web sites where I can print them out please, I want them to be small and on thin cardboard like playing cards so that they're easy to pack and carry with me.

I would also take any suggestions for little electronic devices that can do this!

Too old for flash cards?

Could anyone be too old for flash cards?

I had been using flash cards as my review for months now and they are helping me a lot. But I felt like I should not rely myself too much on these, as I don't know.. I felt like it's not too professional, especially in college?

And what if I get used to it that even at my last year of college, I am still using flashcards???

I need to make myself comfortable and learning through just books.. I need to make my mind sharper.

What are your comments about it? Should I throw out the flashcards??

I am 2nd year (physical therapy course) by the way and the flash cards I used are index cards (I cut them into mini pieces) and they serve as my review, for easier and faster memorization.

Too old for flash cards?
I used them too...mostly for stuff that required the direct memorization...origins, insertions, actions and innervations, etc....and I wasn't the only one.

Where you need to make the transition is with things the require analysis. Therefore, you have change your learning methods from "memorization" to understanding concepts at their basis.

Other than that, nothing wrong with flashcards.

Good luck
Reply:Sometimes the best thing is the simplest.

If flashcards work for you, that's the important thing. They're a great tool.
Reply:if it works for you, there's no reason to change anything. lots of my friends in college use flash cards, there's nothing wrong with it if it gets the job done

Trying to make a compact flash card bootable?

My problem: I have 6 point of sale terminals which have 32mb or 64mb compact flash cards for hard drives.

I am trying to replace these with 1GB cards. I did this for one machine a few months ago using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool. However, when I'm trying to do it now I keep getting Non System disk errors.

Can anyone help - any alternatives would be appreciated.

FYI, I do have a compact flash reader that plugs into my XP computer.

Trying to make a compact flash card bootable?
I don't have an actual answer, but instead some questions that might point towards the right direction:

1. Does all the Terminals have the same firmware? maybe you need to upgrade (or maybe downgrade) the firmware to match the one that did work?

2. Did you try to copy the exact contents of the card that did work, to the other card you were formating? maybe you created the first one with some attribute or flag set on/off which makes the difference?

3. Did you try to use the same card that worked, on a different Terminal? maybe there are some options enabled or disabled on the device it self ?

4. Are all the cards the same (size, contents and so on)?

Hope this helps ...

How do I fix my corrupted mini sd flash card?

I think I know how I broke it. I turned off the device(flash card reader) while it was still writing to the disk. Now it is corrupted and when I try to read it, the computer freezes and won't open it.

Please answer this only if you know what's wrong or if you can actually help.

I think I'm going to have to buy another card or use the warranty and just be careful next time I use it. These cards are not like floppies. They use a different memory.

How do I fix my corrupted mini sd flash card?
Iam assuming it freezes your PC when you try and open the SD Card to see its contents. Unfortunately i dont belive you can retrieve the data being that it never got fully transfered to the SD card anyway.

I would reformat the card, right-click on the drive and select format. Do a FULL FORMAT. Corrupted memory would be re-written with blank data and available to use again.
Reply:when you connect it to the system don't ope3n it... go into my computer and ryt click... then select format...

if that doesn't work... get a new one... but even so it should corrupt the easily

so you could find that there is a fault with it or when you pulled it out you short circuited it
Reply:Greetings,

I was working with a Manufacturer of the SD card . In general I would suggest you to format the card once in Camera or try with another card reader. Preferably if you have the Back up of the data and also I would suggest you to contact the company if the card is in warranty.

Thank you .
Reply:try to insert it, then format..

Chinese flash cards?

Ok this is a stupid question but its really annoying me. Im making flash cards for my chinese class, but flash cards only have 2 sides, but i need to write down the pinyin, english translation, and chinese character for each word. So i need to put 2 on 1 side but if i put the pinyin w/ the characters it doesnt help me learn the characters but if i put it on the same side as the english then if i amd just looking at the english and saying the pinyin its already on the same side. Yes this is probably a stupid question but does any1 know from experience what works best?

I inadvertently deleted a Folder full of pictures from my digital Compact Flash Card, How can I restore them?

WindowsXP Help says that deleted items in CD's and like cannot be restored. Is there a way to restore lost pictures in my Compact Flash Card? Thanks for any help.

I inadvertently deleted a Folder full of pictures from my digital Compact Flash Card, How can I restore them?
All is not necessarily lost. There are several image recovery programs on the internet. One of the best ones is Photorescue. It is from a company called Datarescue. Also, Lexar has a program called Image Rescue and Sandisk has one called Rescue Pro. I use these programs frequently at work, and they have a pretty high success rate. You can only recover photos that have not been written over, so don't use the card again until you have tried the rescue. If you don't want to try yourself, check with your local camera store to see if they offer the service. Good luck!
Reply:Like the first answerer, I agree with him, the pics are gone, sorry, and please, don't be trusting everything that Windows XP "help and support center" says, the whole Windows is untrustfull.
Reply:As long as you just threw the folder in the trash and you did not format your card, the pictures can be recovered. First check the memory cards brand website as some offer recovery software free of charge or already pre-loaded on your card. The person above mentioned others, you can do a search within yahoo or cnet and find another, or if you have a local camera store in town (not a big box store)- someone there can probably help you as that is part of what I do for my job. I have recovered just about everything including pictures that have supposedly been written over. I just pulled pictures of stuff from 1 year ago off one of my cards that I use almost daily. It can be done- so don't worry too much.
Reply:Nope, once it's been taken off the flash card, it's gone... =(

sorry!

Nintendo ds flash cards?

can someone give me a link to a site to buy flash cards that work with the red nintendo ds

Nintendo ds flash cards?
color is a big sign for what firmware revision you DS has. the newer versions of the DS require a different kind of passkey to get your flashcard to work with DS games. if you have a red DS passkey 2 will work fine.

I recommend the M3 SD mini flashcard for GBA/DS

get it at www.divineo.cn or www.divineo.com - great site

a cheaper alternative is the Supercard SD, watch out for fakes though, been a big problem lately.

BTW - The Ps3 will remain in the lead of the next gen console war for one reason, despite the price, quality games. Even if you get all the GTA and Metal Gear games on both platforms you still won't get the quality games that Sony puts out. Games like God of war and shadow of the colossus.

Halo is a great start but Microsoft needs more quality games!
Reply:Well as I understand it, color really doesn't matter regarding flash cards. DS LITE might be a different story... As far as a link goes, I'm still looking myself. Just thought I'd chime in about the color.

Gba/Ds flash cards?

I am doing a research paper, my topic is gameboy advance and nintendo ds flash cards...what would i need to be able to run games on a flash card...i have been reading about usb cartriges, gameboy cards, roms, and programs to run them and junk but none of it makes any sense to me...could someone give me a link or tell me what and need and where to get it. (im looking for the good stuff but at very cheap price)

Gba/Ds flash cards?
For GBA, try this link:

http://www.gameboy-advance.net/

Not sure they have flash cards for DS.
Reply:There are 2 items that you need to buy to be able to play downloaded GBA game roms from the internet. You need to buy a SD card adapter for GBA, and an SD card.

The SD card is where you store the roms.

The SD card adapter for GBA is the "alternative" solution to a proprietary format by Nintendo. Reading between the lines... it enables consumers to download rom copies of full commercial games, for free. Thereby saving you money.

There are many brands and there are many ways to play roms on your GBA. I recommend the "SUPERCARD" http://www.supercard.cn/. Its called supercard but its not a card, its an SD card adapter.

1. Buy the "Supercard"

2. Buy an SD memory module, the bigger the more games you can put inside. I have a 1gig card.

3. Download roms at http://www.grn.dl.am/

4. Copy the downloaded roms to the SD memory module using any card reader/writer you have.

5. Insert the SD memory module to the "Supercard"

6. Insert the "Supercard" into your GBA

7. "Power on" your GBA and you will see a menu of all the games, select a game then play it.

P.S. the supercard comes with a PC program that processes the ROMS. You need to process the roms before copying to the SD.

Have fun

What is the difference in the transflash and flash sd cards for mobile phones?

microSD is an ultra-small, removable flash memory card format originally based on SanDisk's TransFlash card format. It is primarily used in mobile phones, but because of its size and increasing capacity it is also being used in handheld GPS devices, portable audio players, flashcards and the real difference between them is microSD supports Near Field Communication Technology of sharing information between phones hopes that helps good luck

Is a flash card the same as an SD card? Does it easily connect to the computer?

You see, I'm looking to buy a camcorder, and the one I'm looking at has a flash card-based memory storage. Is this the same thing as an SD card? I put my videos on YouTube and I want to make sure the camera I get easily connects to the computer and then to YouTube.

Is a flash card the same as an SD card? Does it easily connect to the computer?
If you don't already have a connector they are selling a USB connector they are 4%26amp;1 mean they have for diferents conectors for devices like, cameras, cell, usbs etc.

They have internals that are replacements for the slot the good old flopy disk use to be or is, and externals that conecct to any USB you have in your machine is a HUB, they only cost around $30.00 in (Frys or microcenter) check it out.

But the first rule of any PC good user is to know about what you motherboard is capable, by getting their manuals that are free and their sites and are ease to learn and put into practice, because if posible is better to have internal devices, because is it less clog than externals device, you inundated you room with cables.
Reply:Yes, an SD card is a flash-card.

However, because you are wanting to load straight to YouTube, I would recommend looking into one of those camcorders that formats the video for YouTube uploading.

If you want flash cards for your computer, you can download some for free from this site:

A good thing about these cards is that they are spoken aloud. You can get plenty of ideas from these if you want some cards to carry around.

I have switched to French horn, and it is really hard, so I want to get some printable flashcards so it will be easier to study. Also, if you have any tips on begginer French horn, please tell me them. I am really bad at French horn, but isn't it the hardest instrument, expecially for a 12 year old!

set the instrument to horn and you can even modify the range. Good luck learning the horn. Tip, get a private teacher who plays horn as their PRIMARY instrument.

How do I clear out flash memory card?

I bought this flash memory card and already used all the pictures, now this memory card is all filled up with photos that I don't need anymore. How do I restore the flash memory card, to new clear card without any photos. So I don't need to buy a new flash memory card.

By the way I have this flash card with 2gb.

How do I clear out flash memory card?
You formatt the card through the camera by going to options and formatt the card.
Reply:Plug the flash drive into your computer, go to start%26gt;all programs%26gt;accessories%26gt;windows explorer, open up the drives by hitting the + sign, find the drive usually an F: drive, open that and you'll see everything on that card/drive, select all with the mouse, and press delete :)
Reply:Hell dont buy new one!!!

Just right click on your picture and press delete. Select all of the pics and delete them all.

Or you can go to my computer and right click on your memory card and select`` format``

Chinese flash cards?
You could probably make one of the items (pinyin or english translation) upside down so it is harder for your class to see both the items which are placed on the same side of the card.
Reply:It would make the most sense to put the pinyin and the character on one side.

However, if you are more concerned with learning the pronounciation than the meaning, put the pinyin and the meaning on one side

Hope that helps!

When choosing a larger Compact Flash card, does the card reader have to be the same brand as the memory card?

I have a Canon A95 with a Sandisk compact flash card and also a Sandisk card reader. I would like to get a larger memory card and am not sure if the card reader is exclusive to Sandisk memory cards.

When choosing a larger Compact Flash card, does the card reader have to be the same brand as the memory card?
It does not have to be the same brand name, but look at the card reader you have and jsut make sure that the card that you buy is the same size (Called a pin number). When you go to get a bigger memory card, bring your current card with you and jsut make sure that they are the physical same size... the sales rep will help! Good luck!
Reply:no. But if your still not sure ask someone in an electronics store
Reply:I would go with Memorex.
Reply:No it does not have to be the same brand, any memory card should work.
Reply:In short, no. The user manual of your Sandisk card reader (or search online) should indicate the maximum address (or size) it can address. The Compact Flash interface is an industry standard. Other brands of read/writers can access your current card and larger densities.

I have an ipaq hx2790b and have recently bought a Compact Flash card?

the compact flash card is 2gb and when inserted in the ipaq it isn't recognised. In the storage memory tab it says storage memory not installed. Is the hx2790b compatible with a 2gb compact flash card? If so then what is the problem?

I have an ipaq hx2790b and have recently bought a Compact Flash card?
The specifications document only states that the iPaq hx2790 is compatible with CF Type II cards. It does not mention capacity limits. I would assume that there are none none.

If that's the case then the problem may be with the CF card itself. Here are some things to consider:

- Is it a new card? Has it been formatted?

- Are you certain that its properly seated in the slot?

- Check that the pins on the iPaq are not damaged.

- Check that ports on the card are not obstructed.

- Verify that the CF card works by installing on a PC with a compatible port.

Good luck.

How to transfer photos from camera to flash card -- Nikon Coolpix 4600?

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4600 but lost the Camera to PC connector cable -- I know you can transfer the pictures on your camera to your flash card from the camera itself, I've done it before. I just don't remember how. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

How to transfer photos from camera to flash card -- Nikon Coolpix 4600?
"If all else fails, read the manual".

That having been said, check your camera's various option menus. At some point there should be something that mentions TRANSFER TO CARD.

Maximum capacity flash card for Canon Digital Rebel?

I have an original Canon Digital Rebel. I'm tired of having to change out the 512mb flash cards so often as I fill them with pictures. I want to buy a flash card at the highest capacity this model can use. What is the highest capacity flash card that this old camera can use? The CF cards seem to go up to 16gb.

I had that camera--and it was able to use 4 GB card.

How much do digital camera flash card readers cost?

I have a Canon Power shot if that makes any difference

im looking for the thing that you can put into your computer and is basically a generic way for any flash card(that fits) to be read by the computer

How much do digital camera flash card readers cost?
I got one for my camera that plugs into the usb port on my laptop for about $8+shipping on Ebay. It was an older model Efilm reader that doesn't read all of the new formats, but it reads standard and SD cards which is all I use for my Canon Elph. Very easy to use, just plug it into usb port and slip card into reader. It does the rest and very quickly. I've had mine for a few years now and never had a problem.
Reply:Basically they cost very little, look for them on Ebay.

they are really easy to install and use.
Reply:8-15, I bought this one that takes multiple cards at the same time, its amazing. Also reads 51 types of cards.

What are flash cards?

i am just starting to learn about computers and would like to kno what are flash cards and what are their function

What are flash cards?
Flash Cards are memory sticks like SD, XD, Sony MS, etc... They are used to store information off of phones, cameras, games and other devices that use the storage media.

A Flash Drive AKA Thumb drive is a usb operated storage device. Basically it can store a certain amount of memory on a tiny drive that fits in your pocket to carry around with you. They are good for backing up data for short term and for transferring data from one computer to another. Hope this Helps Good Luck.
Reply:Theres a couple of different things you could mean.

If your talking about a USB memory stick, which is sometimes referred to as a "Flash drive", then its something which holds data, so you can move data from one pc to another. Just newer technology.. it used to be floppy drives, then CD's, now USB sticks.

Or you could mean a flash card for a camera, or phone, PDA's etc, and sometimes you use them in a computer, if the computer has a card reader, or you have a special Zip drive or card drive that reads them. They basically also move things about, like USB drives,or they could just be in a certain place as an extra card to hold data, (e.g if a phones internal memory is 50mb, they get a 1gb card to have more music on their phone) but their often dedicated to smaller prodcuts, like the ones i mentioned above.

Theirs lot of different size flash cards, and a specific product can often only take one type (MicroSD / MiniSD , SD, compact flash, and lots more which are irrelavent to name)

Are Kingston 133X Compact Flash cards (4 or 8GB) Reliable?

I currently have some Lexar 1GB cards (first cards I bought) but mostly using newer SanDisk Ultra II 2GB cards in a Nikon D200. In the past, larger cards didn't seem too reliable from what I had heard, but wondering if they have improved the quality to where you can count on them. I found a great deal online where it comes down to $10/GB.

Are Kingston 133X Compact Flash cards (4 or 8GB) Reliable?
Kingston has been one of the leaders in memory products for over fifteen years. Their memory cards are some of the best.

I too use a couple of D200's and 4GB cards are large enough for most situations. I usually shoot RAW + JPEG basic.

$10 a meg is just about right

BTW I know of no camera that can support 133x yet.
Reply:Here is a website this is a little old but a lot of the information is still good and give you some of your answers.

I have a couple of Lexars but I shoot mostly using Transcend 2 GB 120x, 80x, 75x and I am using a Nikon D200 and D2Xs and I have no problem and also shooting in raw. I have about 15 of these cards because if the card decides to die I only lost what was 2GB of photos instead of 4GB. I have had only one card ever die on me and that was a long time ago.

Those 2GB Transcend CFC cards only ran me about $25.

PS Nikon supports 133x just so you know.

Hope this helps,

Reply:Yeah, they used to be crappy but now they are way more reliable! Try getting them from a reliable store though, you dont want any cheap stuff that doesnt work.

GRE vocab flash cards?

I'm thinking about making vocab flash cards for the GRE. I want to color code them. But i dont know how to separate them into categories that make sense and will be easier for me to study? Any ideas?

GRE vocab flash cards?
Try classifying them into three difficulty categories:

(1) Easy: Commonly used words in speaking

(2) Medium: Words used in writing or reading

(3) Hard: Rarely used words

Personalized Shapes & Colors Flash Cards?

I have a business that designs and creates personalized colors %26amp; shapes flash cards, personalized alphabet flash cards, %26amp; personalized memory games. Do you think these would be popular items? Would people really be interested in something like this? Please let me know your feedback.

Take a look at them at http://store.auctiva.com/dazzlindezigns

Personalized Shapes %26amp; Colors Flash Cards?
I am sure that people would be interested in them. Would you make enough to support yourself and the business of making them? That is a different matter.

I made personalized flashcards for my children when they were growing up. When they were older, we made new (more advanced) one together. I probably would find your idea interesting but would then find ways to do the same thing using my computer or just using index cards, etc. However, I am a creative type of person and enjoyed doing things like this with and for my children. Other parents may be inclined but may not have the talent or the time.

BTW, I didn't look at your website. My children are beyond the need of flashcards or memory games.

I prefer the Kaplan ones. But it really does depend on your learning style. I learn well by using flash cards - others may not. Take some index cards and make your own flash cards. Try using them, and if they seem to work for you, then try buying the flashcards.

DS Flash Cards and Adapter?

What is the best DS Flash Cards and Adapter out right now? What emulators are already on the flash cards (can other emulators be put onto the flash cards), size capacity, and easiest to use. Where is the best place to buy at a good price no higher the $50. (Online; if any in store, where?)

I want to use this as extra save space, and to download games from systems: NES, SNES, games that are hard to find and only available in Japan.

DS Flash Cards and Adapter?
Hi there!

The best flash card for nintendo DS is R4. The adapter comes with it. This flash card has the capacity to hold any emulator you want. The size of your card depends on the micro SD you buy. I have one of 2gb and it works fine and its a good capacity for me. The cost, you are lucky because all the kit is less than 50. Hey I will give a good site where you can download free and secure games and the emulator you want too:
