What's the best way to teach my children thier math facts, other than flash cards?

The best and most overlooked way to improve classroom education of any kind is to introduce the use of boardgames. I have taught for over ten years all over the world, and only when I use boardgames do students voluntarily insist on extending their classes for two, three, even four hours. Not only that but they then show the most rapid improvement.

Check out the following websites for some useful background info.

Give it a try and you will be amazed. At least you will be helping to break the monopoly that the big textbook publishers have over the education industry.

Reply:i had at home times tests
Reply:the parents give them a tutor
Reply:There isn't a single best way. Different children have different learning styles. Try some different techniques, flash cards are a memorizational technique, maybe using grouped objects and counting for visual and experiential learning. If you can remember ways that worked best for you to learn that may help, learning styles seem to be hereditary.
Reply:Try to come up with real-world activities that demonstrate the facts. For example:

The transitive property states that if a = b, and b = c, then a = c.

A real world example: If 20 nickels = 1 dollar and 4 quarters = 1 dollar, then 20 nickels = 4 quarters.
Reply:personnally i think flash cards work best but maybe give them something else to remember the mathematical words by!

also tell your childeren to keep reading over the work again and again then test them or they can test them selfs by look read cover write and see if they can get it write!
